Box at Penn State offers free secure, scalable, and user-friendly content sharing for all students, faculty, and staff. Box allows content to be stored online, so it can be accessed, managed, and shared from anywhere. Access Box on mobile devices or seamlessly sync files to your laptop or desktop computer.

How do I sign up for a Box account?

Go to https://box.psu.edu and click on the “Login” button.  The website will then walk you through the easy account creation process.

How much does a Box at Penn State account cost?

There is no cost to the end user or department. Funding for Box at Penn State is provided by Information Technology Services.

What password do I use with my Box at Penn State account?

Box at Penn State is secured by Web Access, so each person will use their Penn State Access ID and password.

Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS)

Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS) provides universally-accessible disk space/file storage space for use by anyone at Penn State. Upon receipt of a Penn State Access Account, all Penn State students, faculty, and staff are allocated (initially) 500 MB of online storage space. Users can increase their storage allocations to 10GB via the ITS Secure Server's Directory Quota utility.

Accessing PASS on Campus

Connect to your PASS Space as a mapped drive

  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on Computer
  3. Under Network Drives, search for the X: drive
  4. Open the X: drive to view your files

Accessing PASS off Campus

Connect to your PASS Space via a web browser

WebFiles is a University service that allows users to connect to their PASS space using a web browser.  WebFiles allows you to manage files from any internet-connected computer, and allows copying of files from other services, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and SkyDrive.  Learn more about WebFiles.

Connect to your PASS Space as a mapped drive (similar to accessing the X: drive on campus)

Webfiles

WebFiles provides easy access to your PASS (X: Drive) Space files on Penn State's central file servers from your home computer and almost any portable device with a web browser and Internet access.  You can also copy files to and from external services such as Google Docs (now Google Drive), Dropbox and SkyDrive.

PASS Explorer is still available to use at: https://explorer.pass.psu.edu/. However, for the average user, WebFiles offers a better user interface as well as increased functionality.
