Why Penn State New Kensington?  Family Traditions

For the past two years, there were two Hampshires attending Penn State New Kensington, Mike Hampshire (2012, Business) and Matt Hampshire (2014, Business).  Last year, a third Hampshire -- Christa, (2016, forensic science) -- joined us on campus.

Matt said he checked out the school because both his father, Larry Hampshire (1982, electrical engineering) and his brother, Mike, enjoyed attending Penn State New Kensington.  He said he even followed his brother's footsteps in his choice of management and marketing as a major because he wants to have his options open when he graduates.

left quote I chose Penn State New Kensington because my brother and my father both went here and enjoyed it. I also knew I could live at home while I earned my 4-year degree, and that I could save my money for a new car instead,” Matt Hampshire said.

Since most Penn State New Kensington alumni are very satisfied with their experiences here, they often share their excitement for the university with others.  As a result, strong family connections to Penn State New Kensington are common.

Eric Bennardo (2015, Communications) also has family ties to the University as both his mother, Angela, (1979, Medical Laboratory Technology) and father, Michael, (class of 1998, Nursing) attended Penn State New Kensington.

left quote I do believe that, along with the academic and social atmosphere of Penn State, that this [family] tradition greatly influenced my decision to attend Penn State New Kensington. My desire to go to Penn State was so great that it was the only school that I applied to, and I am very happy with the classes that I have taken and the professors and classmates that I have met," Eric Bennardo said.
